Thailand Experience
This exciting 3-week programme offers
an opportunity to experience cultural activities, volunteering and sightseeing
in Northern Thailand. You will spend a week in Chiang Mai teaching English to
novice monks or school children, a week working with elephant conservation
projects, and a final week volunteering in a remote hill-tribe village.
Chiang Mai Culture & Volunteer
Week
During this week you will volunteer
at a government or temple school teaching English to children or novice monks
aged between 5-18 years.
The children and novice monks really
benefit from their interaction with international volunteers as it helps their
English skills, and it also broadens their perspective and motivates them to
continue their studies. The monks love the opportunity to share Buddhist
perspectives so this is a perfect programme for anyone who wants to learn about
Buddhist philosophies and culture.
You will stay at our lovely volunteer
house in the Doi Saket District, close to Chiang Mai. The house is surrounded
by bright green rice paddies and it is located just behind a Buddhist temple.
The house is only 10 minutes walk into town where you can find cafes with WiFi
and small supermarkets, etc.
Elephant Conservation Week
You will spend this week working with
an elephant conservation project. Elephants in Thailand are often used in the
tourist and logging trades, and do not get the good treatment and healthy lives
that they deserve.
You may be involved with one of two
projects: a sanctuary for disabled, retired and orphaned elephants, where
volunteers feed and bathe the elephants to improve their lives and
conditions; or a project in which volunteers forage and trek with elephants and
promote non-exploitative relationships with local communities in the animals'
natural environment.
Hill-Tribe Culture
& Volunteer Week
This week is spent in the rural
hill-tribe region of Northern Thailand (approximately 5 hours from Chiang Mai).
You will have the opportunity to learn about hill-tribe culture and time for
activities such as treks to local waterfalls and visits to other villages; you
can also spend time with the hill-tribe women and learn how to cook authentic
Thai food. During your time in this region you will volunteer at a village
school teaching children aged between 4 and 15 years, with class sizes ranging
from 8 to 20 students.
This week offers an amazing
opportunity to learn about authentic Thai village life. The people in this
region are extremely proud of their local customs and this programme offers an
opportunity to learn about their unique way of life.
Please note the order of these 3
weeks may vary.
