First Week in China

Posted By Louisa Caines on 11 Sep 2011
Day 5  After a packed few days in Beijing, Becky and I are now at the airport waiting to fly south to Guilin. We have had a fantastic time here in Beijing and have quickly covered all of the major sights and more in the past four days. The imperial buildings were particularly spectacular, especially the Summer Palace and Forbidden City, for which we had a great guide who really added to the experience. The Lama temple and the Ming Tombs were really beautiful too and set in tranquil greenery - a pleasant contrast to the stark architecture dominating most of the city.

Getting Ready to Go

Posted By Louisa Caines on 02 Sep 2011
With two days to go until we fly to Beijing, Becky and I are now making our final preparations! Time has certainly flown by since we first booked the trip and now we cannot wait to arrive. We have already planned trips to the Summer Palace, the Great Wall, the Ming tombs, the Forbidden City and much more, trying to squeeze as much as possible into the few days we have in Beijing. Then we shall head south towards Guilin to meet our host there and spend time becoming acquainted with Chinese culture and customs, as well as attempting to learn some of the language, before taking the train to Pingxiang where we will be volunteering in the orphanage.
